Who We Are

Northeast Georgia Council on Domestic Violence is a non-profit 501 (c) (3) charitable agency dedicated to the prevention of, and intervention in, domestic violence.

Our mission is to support victims of domestic violence and their families through intervention, prevention & education.

The agency started in 1995 as a grass-roots citizen’s group dedicated to addressing domestic violence. The agency incorporated in 1996 and opened its first 5 bed shelter in June of 1998.

As of 2013, the agency operates an 8 bed shelter for domestic violence victims & their children with hotel/motels utilized as needed as well. The agency also provides outreach services to victims that do not require shelter and legal advocacy for all those requesting these services. In addition the agency has a Teen Program. This past fiscal year, the agency has provided 34,141 units of services to 1,321 clients. This includes 520 adults, 107 families, 234 children, 567 teens and 32 senior adults.  

NEGACDV provides to clients of domestic violence: emergency shelter, crisis counseling, case management, support/educational groups, advocacy,  therapy, Nurturing Parenting classes, life skills, criminal justice support, emergency legal advocacy, assistance filling out safety plans and compensation claims, and information, referral, and connection to community services. In addition, the agency operates a non-profit thrift store with proceeds going to support client services.
